I loved revisiting this story, the first of the Immortal Ops expanded Anniversary Edition! Now I get to reread ALL of them again, this time in the expanded versions. Can't wait! I have all that are available for pre-order already ordered. I hope to read them in order this time.
Lukian is the leader of his team of Immortal OPs. They just received a missive from their commander, to take out a woman named Peren. Lukian had killed only a few women in his very long life and one look at her picture, he knew that he didn't want to start again with her. His wolf was a bit more adamant about it, as in PROTECT HER, MINE! But they are a paramilitary group and used to following orders. They strategize and find that Peren's girl friends have been trying to set her up on a date. That give them the perfect opening to get her alone and eliminate her. Once at the bar where they are to meet the three girls, Lukian knows immediately that the operation needs to be aborted. He can smell other shifters either in the bar or close by. Peren is very nervous and keeps glancing around the bar. Suddenly she take off out o the bar. Lukian dashes after her, but she run faster than any woman without their enhancements should be capable of doing. What is she? Who and why does some group want her eliminated? He races after her, Peren does not know if he is the danger or the danger lies elsewhere. Lukian tells his team to abort mission and come to his aid.
Then things get really hairy in more than one way! And, they just keep coming. Danger everywhere! Lukian's team immediately follows his lead rather than their superiors.
After this, things get wild, dangerous, violent, deadly, adventurous, mysterious, SEXY, and loving. More than Lukian and Peren find themselves in clinches. This book has everything! Even a HEA at the end.
I really loved this story and although I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review, I just HAD to buy a copy, and I also pre-ordered all the other expanded anniversary editions that I could! Now, I just have to twiddle my thumbs and wait for them to be released! THANK YOU Mandy Roth!!!
I haven't read too many paranormal stories, but after reading this, it won't be my last! I loved all the characters. The brotherly relationship between the shifters was entertaining! They stayed loyal to each other through anything and everything. The romantic relationships were just as good! Peren and Lukian were the main characters, but I'm looking forward to reading future books with the rest of the relationships, especially Roi and Missy's! The sex was hot, and I loved the whole "mates for life" aspect. The connection it brought on to their relationship was intense, especially considering their relationship hadn't started on the best note! Peren showed plenty of resistance, but watching her walls come down to Lukian kept the pages turning! I wish we would have learned more about who Peren really is. It's too bad this book couldn't have been longer or more of the books were focused on her and Lukian. Even though the books is an HEA, it did leave strings untied. Maybe further books in the series will help to tie up the loose ends!
Okay so first thing is, I do want to continue the series. I was super excited to read this series. I heard so much good things. So of course I'm going to buy all of them and read them. Its not a bad story. That's the bookworm in me. The naughty book worm.
The reason I gave this book 2 stars is not because it sucked. The writer is amazing. And I following her on social medias and I know how she loves to connect with her fans and she loves writing. Her writing isn't bad. AT ALL.
Its the story. Confusing.
I enjoyed the characters, so far. And I want to read more about them all. And maybe it's because it's the first book, But it took me a while to get into the story. And when I did finally just give in, I just wasn't that attached which sucked because I can get into a book and read it in less than a day. Maybe a few hours if I'm not busy.
So my main reason for giving a 3 stars...
I know this is a longer version But to me this seemed like too much. Like they just published all the notes and ideas of the first draft and stuck them together. There was just so much going on and so little time. I mean my main concern is one minute the main female felt scared and next she's basically humping the main guy...or actually any guy that's related to her "mate". And at the end it explained what was going on the them "the end" ...whattt
And then the whole shifter/immortal/military people. It just seemed like too much includes with so little explaining about it.
I'm hoping when the second book comes out November 29 that it explains more and I'll be into it. Because I'm really looking forward to Roe and Missy.
